Default 241 heads on 5.3

How much will it drop the compression ratio? Is $300 a good price for a set of low mileage (30k) complete heads?

I wouldn't really consider 241 heads to be a worthwhile upgrade over the current heads you have.

Also, if it's a late model 5.3 that comes with the 799 heads it would actually be a downgrade.

Yeah... a Stock 5.3 head would be perfect for your set-up and factor in porting.. For pretty darn cheap. The 241's are good to but, runner size will be for more top end you are going to have to Shrink the valve because of (3.779") bore...are you willing to bore to 3.90

^not real sure what that means lil John sorry a little to tech for me but, I'm just sliding in a cam and running long tubes, don't want to get to crazy with it. That being said should I find a truck head 862 or jump on this deal for some 241's?

The 241's would work fine, and the bigger valves would be better, but they'll drop the CR down so it may be a wash. $300 is way too much for 241's unless they've been freshened up. You can usually find 862's and 241's for cheaper than that. The last set of 862's I bought were $120.

Sorry.... Football game and left-overs

KCS i didn't no that.. I thought that because the bore size of the 5.3 was smaller U would have to change valves....Or bore the block to 5.7 bore size 3.90

Guy says their clean and low mileage as stated. I can get a set of bare 862 heads for $75 if the 241s aren't any better

I did a set of 862's with 2.02" valves for a buddy of mine. He put them on a 4.8L I rebuilt for him as well. He just made over 650whp @ 12psi in a full size Chevy truck with that combo.

Not sure I would do that for a naturally aspirated combo, but this turbo setup didn't seem to care. 2" valves should be okay, but in the OP's setup, the loss in compression would probably be more of a loss than the bigger valves would help. Now, if he were to get the 862's, cut a valvejob and add 2" LS1 valves, it should be a really good bang for the buck setup.

To for the 862's, but beware that some 862's were cast by Castech and were known to crack and leak water. The battery logo cast on top of the port in the rocker arm area is the telltale sign. Also, some have a "void" in the deck that will cause a leak if you use the OEM MLS gaskets. You would have to use a specific Fel Pro MLS gasket or the OEM graphite gaskets.
