Gen IV LS truck engine for a JK: which one?
I've got a two door JK on 37's with 4.88 gears. My little V6 just isn't cutting it anymore.
I'm starting my search and gathering parts to stuff a proper V8 in my JK. I'll be purchasing the MoTech "kit" as I've heard nothing but good things.
MoTech says Gen IV LS truck engine and 6L80. I'll be sourcing the motor and trans on my own. Before I start burning up their email and phone with questions, I wanted to ask the LS guys first.
What trucks should I be looking at?
Are there particular differences I need to pay attention to?
I've heard some have aluminum blocks, true? (less weight is good)
5.3 or 6.0? (mpg, power, weight, etc.)

Depends on what ya want to spend. LY6 can be a good deal. The prices on most JY LSs seemed to go up the last few years.
If you try www.car-parts.com , you have a wide rage to look at. Just try different yr truck and engine designation. if you get 12 pages of engines and they start getting 15oK milage at pg7, still check the rest of the pages. As they list from price , not milage. Some times you'd get lucky and find a yard with a lower milage engine asking cheap $

There is a "junk yard" not that far from me where I'll be able to get a good deal. The guys are customers of mine and I'll most likely end up swapping some stuff to offset the cost.
At this point I'm not sure what I need to ask them to help me find.

Just be careful doing what I done. I bought what I thought was a 2003 Yukon motor. Turns out the guy had no idea what he had and sold me a 2007+ all aluminum 5.3 with DoD. Now that's the good part. The sad part is the parts list is adding up to make this motor work in my truck the newer truck motors are BA but if u do get one make sure it doesn't have the DoD bs with it.

all aluminum would be a desired option if i can get one.
i'll be asking the guys at the yard to pull "everything" since i'll need the complete computer to mate to the MoTech kit.
