Help a newby identify this engine.
Is this an L92? Both me and a friend that is more knowledgable about LS stuff think it is. We think the truck is an 08 and it is a 4x4. Obviously it is badly burnt, but I can get the engine for $100 or less. Taking a little gamble on it. The bottom of the block still has some of the electrical stuff on it, so we know that part of it did not get hot enough to melt those. The top of the enigne on the other hand is toasted. Melted all of that stuff including the valvecovers. Isn't there supposed to be a difference with the water pump and the front cover? I know the heads have a 5364 casting #.
I have never personally dealt with an engine pulled from a completely charred vehicle, and should I be skeptical about this one since it appears to have an aluminum block and heads?
Just got a vehicle/project that I would like to do a swap on, so I am trying to learn about the LS stuff.

Can you look at the casting numbers on the heads...is it out of the truck yet? can you look at the back of the block behind the flex plate there will be casting of "6.2L" behind the flywheel to the upper right...

Heads have a 5364 casting. And no the engine is not out of the truck. Started working on it today. It is in a muddy "you pull it" salvage yard. Didn't have all of my tools with me and it was a spur of the moment type thing. Thought it would be easy since everything is melted out of the way, but that was not the case.

I would assume its an L92 motor because of the heads casting number. I've mostly dealt with the 821 (LS3) and 823 (L92) so I don't know if this was an early casting number of some sort.
Can you open the glove box inside the truck of is it burnt in there too? The option code label in there should tell you what engine is in there

The motor could be a LY6. My 08 LY6 has 5364s. Is this truck a 1/2 ton? Try placing a magnet on the engine block.

Got it out and it is a 6.0L with 5364 heads. Did not have a magnet with me again today, but I got the engine. Block definitely looks to be aluminum.

Sounds like L76 to me. Aluminum, 6.0, L92 heads and VVT. I'm not aware of any other aluminum 6.0's in trucks with those heads.
Ive got some stock parts if you want a deal. I'm turning my L76 into a Jet boat engine with a Mast cam and ECU. So I won't need a few

Things like an Intake manifold and fuel rail (no injectors) and front brackets ( i dont think I tossed them...lol). Also an E38 ecm and some AFM stuff (if you are keeping it)
PM me if interested.
What is your intent with this engine?

My intent is to tear it down, check it over, fix whatever is needed, and stuff it into a car. Probably throw a shot on it. Get it all tuned up and running well and have some fun.

Here is a pic of the engine after I removed the heads.
I have the engine almost completely torn apart now. Got to remove the rods, pistons, and crank and it will be all apart.
Thats a new experimental intake manifold that I removed.
