Default Carb'd L76 with stock valvetrain?

Can you run an L76 with VVT without a computer? I don't want to do a cam swap and delete everything yet, so I'm wondering if the default for the engine if the electronics portion isn't hooked up will allow the engine to run like normal.

Have this moved to the carbed section and you'll get several answers.

No luck yet over there. I doubt many people have tried it. Im guessing that it will function without any issue. Ive been doing some reading and it looks like the lifters dont collapse until they receive oil pressure from the solenoid being activated. So if there isnt a computer to control it, then it shouldn't be an issue.....hopefully
