Question regarding swapping 5.3 LM7 into my LS2 GTO
Hey guys, so later this summer I'm going to swap a 5.3 LM7 short block into my car until I can save up $6-7k to do a fully-forged 402 with all of the good parts.
I have been running a stock-bottom-end LS2 with 317 heads and a custom blower cam. Apparently the LS2 has a 24x reluctor wheel, and from what I'm seeing the LM7 blocks have a 58x reluctor wheel.
I tried doing some research on reluctor wheels but I'm not having a lot of luck answering my own question. What are my options for using my custom blower cam out of my LS2 in the 5.3 block? Will I have to swap in my original 24x reluctor wheel? Or can HP Tuners or EFI Live program the ECM to accept the 58x reluctor wheel? Are there any other modifications/parts I will need in order to make this swap work in my 2005 GTO? Thanks in advance!

Figured I'd post here too since not many responses...IIRC all 4.8/5.3/6.0 trucks up until 2007 use a 24x reluctor wheel. In 2007 GM made the change over to a 58X reluctor but it was a split year so you may have a 24X or a 58X that year. Anyway IMO any iron block up to 2006 would be a safe bet in your application. In regard to your cam you can reuse the LS2 blower cam, provided its a 3 bolt cam...You will also need to reuse the cam gear, and front timing cover. IMO that LS2 cam might be a little more than that 5.3 would want as it is spec'd for about 39 more CI's. I'm sure it will work might just leave something on the table that a smaller cam might pick up.

Thanks for the responses guys. Yeah I must've had some confusion on my part regarding the reluctor wheel on the 5.3 LM7's I was looking at on Ebay last month. Great to know that most blocks are 24x. Looking forward to hearing back from you next week or so on your 5.3 Superslow!
Good to know about the cam too. I assume the 5.3 lifters can stay (if they're low mileage like yours)? Thanks again!
