contemplating engine options. please advise

Default contemplating engine options. please advise

I have been looking at the lq4 block as a starting point and want to bore, stroke, and bump the CR on it for an all motor build. In the end I will run e85 or ACN 91. I do want it to be as budget as possible and I don't want that to interchange with the word cheap because I know it will not be cheap. of course there are many stroke and bore measurements out there so I am looking for something reliable and it will be swapped into a non GM vehicle (foxbody). I have thought about porting and polishing the stock heads as well as decking them to keep the cost down but if that is not an option then that is fine. I also plan to dump the truck manifold as well and finding an ls manifold to use with a 90mm TB. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Sounds like the perfect candidate for a 408 stroker. 4" stroke / 4.010 bore I believe. Callies compstar rotating assy. Is what I woukd use for a NA only motor

LQ9 block / Eagle crank and rods / GM 823 castings waiting 4 Chris Frank to get them or I could use my in the box bare TFS 255 ls3 heads still = to 700 hp with pump gas with my TICK SOLID ROLLER..combo cost with the L92 heads is still under 10 grand if built myself which I can do.
So what type of power or ET do you have in mind. Is it a daily driver...etc.
Callies crank $1200.oo VS Eagle 750.oo or rods my eagle rods which are rated @ 1200-1500 hp cost me 525 with ARP bolts. It is all about your pocket book or knowing what works.
What do you want out of your engine besides just being a stroker.... max RPM - Racing gears or street gears....etc...

Better yet go to HOT ROD look 4 the 408 LS heads test take your pick.
HEADS REALLY MAKE YOUR POWER. The better a sprinter can breathe = ?
The same holds true with engines....
You don't alway have to spend alot of cash.
Find some 1 who knows what works - Mamo / TSP / LME / TOOLEY / Vengence / HKE ...etc
Alot of people claim 2 know alot and never built a engine case and point I bought and speced every part...Not what someone sold me on I get the wholesale price so price is not a problem... Knowing what works is ?

good info so far guys. thank you. It wont be a daily driver but it will be street driven mostly. im not really interested in ET's I would just like to have around 550whp and me able to perform on a circuit or autox

Good 408 - 418 short block 12+ comp. for your E85.
FTI HEADS AND CAM PACKAGE they recommend {flow tech inductions}
Your done. there will be some small stuff I over looked BUT the main stuff is up above.
