Default LS2 lifter bore scored

Had a lifter go bad. It took out the cam as well as scored the bore. I want to keep the block if at all possible. I have read where the bore can be sleeved but am having no luck finding a machine shop to do he work. If anyone can recommend a machine shop, that would be much appreciated. I live in a small town but these areas are not far; Savannah GA, Jacksonville FL or Charleston SC.

Thanks

How bad is the bore? I had a block that I thought had scored lifter bores. I took it to the machine shop and they said run it- it'll be fine. They lightly resurfaced it by hand and gave it back to me. Everything went together fine- just waiting on a few other things to start the car.

From what I understand, to do that job the right way, the machine shop should have a fixture that slides in where the cam goes so it can index the cutting tool as it comes down through the top of the lifter bore. Of course, you need a different fixture for every engine. There are not a lot of machine shops out there that have this fixture for the LS2-3 engines.

I've had it done by a local machine shop in Carlisle PA...so yes it is somewhat common.

Wow- a mm is pretty deep. If the hole is still round, maybe you can just knock the edge off the score so it's smooth and run it?

I would put a new lifter in there and run it, must likely the bad lifter sacrificed itself smoothing it out for you already, for anyone who seen an open engine running and how oil bleeds from everywhere you would not feel bad if have a little extra lubricant out of lifter bores which by the way are bleeding oil 100 % of the time even when all is well, out the top and bottom of lifter bores.

The single must largest oil lost comes from the oil pump itself, as you know there is no seal between pump and crank so the splash is gigantic but still manages up to 73 psi at wide open throttle as in my case, guess where that gigantic splash go, -to lubricate the timing chain-

How about this: get a lifter that you know is good and try to send it though the damaged lifter bore. If it slides through with a little push then it might be okay. Send the lifter through a few of the good bores to see what it's supposed to feel like.

If you get resistance going through the hole, maybe you could try to find and take down any high or sharps spots around the score.

Hone the lifter bore and it'll be fine. You can get a hone at NAPA or Sears.

Lifter bore cleaned up pretty good. Lifter slides smoothly.

While inspecting rest of block, for this on #3 main web.

It feels like a crack. I have another LS2 block, I looked at it and it is smooth like the other main webs.

Confirmed not a crack. It is from the casting process as some have stated. Got professional look over it. They pointed out something I completely overlooked; crack would have continue through the radius of bearing lip. It starts just below the radius on both sides of the bearing girdle.

Now, I have to keep the wife from finding out it is not an issue as I bought another block.
