Default LSA - Oil squirter - Real data needed

Any one have any tangible data regarding piston oil sprayers?
Would love to see some test results from a OEM that logged piston or combustion chamber temps.

I have searched the inter-web and only found hear say so far.

So you aren't getting any responses. I may be way off base here but I do remember the SRT4 being one of the first factory applications of this on a forced-induction engine that I was aware of. Since those have been around longer you might find some data there. Not the same I know but you could infer data from that motor perhaps.

At least your thread gets a bump and I'm sure someone will shoot me between the eyes for mentioning a Neon.

I have found a little info on the SRT4 sites and the Supra 2JZ engines. Not much from the LSA crowd on this.
Katec offers aftermarket ones and the LSA / LS9 both come factory with them.

This will cost you $24 but it's a SAE paper specifically on what you are asking. Since this tech has been used in diesel/industrial engines for decades it may just be that modern study is considered redundant for a proven technology. "Piston Cooling" is a pretty fruitful search avenue.

Good luck.

Does a stream of oil on the underside of a piston cool it down vs. not having one?
YES

I spent 1 minute on Google and found this

Nobody was doubting that piston squirters might cool a piston. OP was asking for real-world testing of with/without.

While the article you found is a great read(and I'll definitely be back to re-read in more detail), the guy makes a quick reference to the piston being some times cooler underneath than at the crown and does not seem to address how much of that is due to the squirter and how much is due to the fact that COMBUSTION HAPPENS ON THE CROWN. The author makes a case for oil's heat transfer responsibilities in an engine and he makes a great case for a diesel engine oil cooler he obviously has some commercial interest in. Did I miss some in-depth analysis of the effectiveness of the squirters themselves? It is a long article.

Thanks.

You might search the DSM forums too. Those 4G63 engines had oil squirters since like 1989 or so, plus I'm sure the motor continued to have squirters as they evolved in the Evo's.
