Default LS2 knock sensor holes

So I have a bit of a problem. I bought this engine from someone who had drilled the tapped the knock sensor holes to m10 so they could run LS1 sensors. Now I need to install ls2 sensors back in the holes. I looked at a helicoil kit but it looks like the hole is already too large to use that. Any other ideas?

You could always take it somewhere and have them weld, drill, and tap them to factory spec. Or a machinebshop could make threaded sleeve to install in the block and then drill and tap that.

Yeah the engine is already in the car and I am trying not to take it back out. I founded a threaded adapter to go from 12x1.75 to 8x1.25 but that means I will be drilling and tapping an even larger hole in the block. I dont know of any other options though.

This story played out in my head as I was drilling mine to M10. You could find a local bolt place that would make you a stud that is M10 on one end just long enough to bottom out in the hole and M8 sticking out and attach the knock sensor with a nut. I haven't looked at the LS2 sensor in a while but I seem to remember it mounts with a bolt through it that should pop right out?

I've gotten some semi-custom stuff from a bolt place in town and it was much more affordable than I feared. I'd guess $10. If you can't find a local place to do it for you, call Baton Rouge Bolt. They have made stuff for me and weren't fussy about it.

Actually looks like it already exists..you'll have to figure out the length and adjust(cut/grind) the stud down if necessary and possibly grind the nut part off in the middle but $1.41 is pretty affordable I think and a way to go also.

Well hell...... I tapped mine out to m12x1.75 then used these to reduce it.....

I'm pretty sure there are oversized heli coil kits that you'd use if you stripped out the standard sized ones.. look into that some

Timesert I think they are called. They may have some that are oversized as well

Yeah I did the one on the passenger side first and didnt quite tap it perfectly straight but it was close enough and worked. I figured the drivers side was going to be the major pain since the steering box was right there (69 Camaro) but it was actually easier than the passenger side.

Hey not fair...that auction doesn't include the nut or aggravation involved.

Actually, that one may not be long enough. You may need something more like this:

Yep I was looking for a stud like that but could not find one. Nice find!
