Default LS7 Short Block.. Where to buy?

So I'm looking to spend around $7500 total for basically all the parts needed for an LS7 (heads, cam, ect). I can get a used longblock for this price but I'd like to see what I could find a STOCK shortblock for. I know SDPP has a forged short block for $6000. This is alittle over the budget that I have and alittle overkill to what I need.

However, I have yet to find any place where I can buy a stock shortblock that is new. It's either a crate engine ($14k) or a bare block ($2500). Vengeance racing sells the heads/cam package for about $2800 which leaves me wanting a short block for under $5000.

What exactly do you mean by a "stock" shortblock? You mean a preassembled shortblock? I want to say good luck trying to find an LS7 shortblock for $5,000. The price of LS7 junkyard pullouts are at least 9-10k for a longblock with accessories. Maybe you should look for a set of pre-assembled Ls7 heads here in the classifieds and get a cam spec'd

A stock LS7 short block is setup for the dry sump.(semidry). So factor in converting back to wet sump or finishing it with a remote tank and lines.

Tons of used ones are found with 10k miles or less for under $5000 all the time. Im curious to see what an assembled stock one is since Scoggin Dickey sells an assembled shortblock with forged internals for $6000. I'm going with the VR head/cam package that they have if I go this route.

I already have, Im either reusing most everything from my current LS3 or I will buy it all new from Scoggin Dickey since they have the kit. Its a fairly simple conversion and about $800 total. A remote tank and lines are very expensive from what I have found to keep it dry sump.
