Default DOD delete- valley cover required??

So after pulling the plug on my 5.3L dud motor, I've begun a teardown on a newer 4.8L I picked up from a buddy a few months back. I'm not sure what year 4.8 it is, but as I'm tearing down the motor I made a discovery... this thing has DOD! Not too big a deal, as I see it, I'll carry over my lifters, trays, front cover and 3 bolt cam with LS2 front cover, but what I don't know is the deal with the valley cover. I know TSP offers an LS3 valley cover with their 'DOD delete kit', however is there a reason besides the crank vent, or is there a functional reason behind this? I know the 4.8L valley cover has those small oil provisions but I don't know at what point they become irrelevant.

Always appreciate the help!

I'm pretty sure by simply replacing the 8 DOD lifters with regular ones, the rest of the DOD parts become inert...

Yea that's the impression I had too based on what the system looks like.

The valley cover has o-rings to block off the DOD oil port hole stands. You could drill/tap and put a plug in them alternatively. The block side that is.

Maybe I'm referring to VVT.
