Default Lsx rear cover issues?

So I fitted the rear cover on my lsx block before it went on the stand and while I was fitting the front cover dealing with more clearancing even though it was CNC'd to clear the double roller! I thought I would look at the rear cover while its upside down well good thing I did the cover does not lay flat on one side and the rubber string is not even touching until the first bolt I slide a .025 feeler gauge in! Is this a defective cover I checked for burrs before the install and cleaned anything I seen? Here is a pic of both sides.

Do you have a proper gasket between the rear cover and the block?

LSX rear covers dont take a standard LS gasket they use a fine rubber string in a groove if you look close at the pics you can see it.

Well, its obvious it's not sealing correctly, the question is why?

Have you tried pulling it back off to see if its hitting any where? Possibly the cover or the block was not machined correctly and it's hitting some were?

I have not pulled it yet but i was told that sometimes the bolts bottom out before pulling the cover all the way in so that could be the cause. When i do get it off i will put a straight egde on the cover and block to verify that's not the problem but one builder i chatted with said they all suck and they use a GM sealer on everyone they do.

Looks like you got the wrong size rope seal.

It was bagged with the GM part number on it so i doubt that is the problem. Its just a poor design!

I've built at least a dozen LSX blocks and the rope seal never fit that loose in the rear cover. I'm just saying, what you have pictured is different than what I've seen.

I was surprised by how thin the rubber string seal was and had to glue it in place so it would not fall out. Do you have any pics of some you have done so I can compare?
The groove in the cover in not wide or deep so I can't see a much larger seal fitting.

I just got done with pulling the cover off and checking some things all bolts were fine not bottomed out and the block showed fine with a straight edge however the lower corner of the cover did not the last 1" of the corner is .035" bowed out which is why i was seeing the gap. Here is a pic with a straight edge and one with the seal installed.

Default Small but crucial....

When using the LSX cast iron blocks use some kind of glue for the smaller upper seal on the back cover cause she will get the blunt of hot oil pressure and it must stay in place no matter what or oil pressure drop can happen. Silicon or super glue is fine.

Be sure oil restrictor plug is in, Merry Christmas....
