Can I use a Single plane intake on this 402 setup?
I picked up a new Dave Diluca 402 from an unfinished pro-touring project that I plan to drop into my 1969 Camaro. It was for sale on Lateral G. http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=48712
I would like to keep a period correct look and go with a Vic Jr or Holley Mid rise EFI intake with an Accufab throttle body. I think the mid rise would provide better low- mid range response over the Vic Jr. The car will be primarily street driven.
Engine Specs:
- LS2 4.00" block
- AFR 225cc CNC heads milled to 66c
- Eagle 4.00" 4340 crank
- Lunati Billet 6.125 rods
- Wiseco 6394RA +8cc pistons with valve reliefs
Assuming zero deck height, this brings the compression ratio to 10.7:1.
The cam is sort of a mystery, but it has been guessed to be around .600 lift range and 240/244 @ .050, on a 110 lsa.
What type of intake was this cam designed for? Will this cam work with a single plane intake?
I am reading single plane intakes like more overlap. Using internet math, I get (((240+244)/4) - 110)* 2= 22 degrees of overlap for this cam. Although I am not sure how that number fits in with optimal overlap for a single plane intake.

I just found this thread on the intake vs cam relationship.

I am reading up on it now.

Will it work? Sure... Will it be optimal? Probably not...
I just did a lot of research on this topic as I had to go through a rebuild (and I considered that same engine, btw... ). I found some good data by searching both here and Yellow Bullet. The problem you face is not knowing the exact cam specs, but I'd bet that the cam was speced to work with a stock style intake.
There are some great people out there to talk to who could help you spec a cam if you want to change it, but I think they will all tell you that without the full specs, they can't tell you a lot about your current setup. Some people to call would be Brian Tooley (BTR), Geoff Skinner (EPS), Kip at Cam Motion, Martin at Tick Performance. I'm sure there are more too, but these guys were the ones that seem to have experience with the single plane combinations which I found through internet searches...
Good luck! I just got mine on the road yesterday.

The same here just calling for specs on a cam, is only a waste of time if the money is not there to spend.
It's time to get out of gang banger STL - Fergereson, Missouri, 8 murders in less than 1 wk in drive by related gun battles.
Great people and nice women and crazy weather 80 Monday, cold Snap, Sleet yesterday.

Holley also makes a dual plane intake for the LS engines. It is a carb intake, but you can have bosses drilled for the fuel injectors. It will probably be a bit more street friendly than a single plane.

The best person for your combo would be Mr Mamo as he's the AFR guru. Sure he would and could help with the best overall intake that looks period correct. Port that Some B!tch if you can.
