Default Building LS2 for a tank!

Building LS2 for a tube-chassis 57 Chevy with M6 and 3.91 9" gear. I have the LS2 short block (disassembled now) and 243 heads. Planning to use Vic jr or Holley mid 4150 intake, adapter, and horizontal-mount TB to keep the 'old school' look to it with a big round air cleaner and LT headers and UD pulley (for steering clearance).

Yes, it'll be my daily driver...when it's not too lousy outside. And yes, it'll be at the track a time or two, here & there; have to prove that it can be run hard...and ain't a trailer queen. Ultimately, I'm lookin' for more performance out of the mid-range, not just a big curve at 7k (where it'll only be 1% of the time). Hoping for streetable 450 RWHP. But reliability is favored over getting the last couple HP out of the engine.

1. Would y'all stick with the 243 heads or go 823 / LS3? (can't spend $3k on heads). Would you mill the 243s much to bump CR?
2. Cam suggestions? I hear good things about the Tick street heat stage 1 or 2. Any other options for solid performance and a nice thumpy idle?
3. What TB would you use, stock LS3 or so?
4. Re intake, any favorites? Again, it's an ol' Chevy so hood clearance isn't a major problem.

Thanks all...

You'd need some serious heads and cam to reach 500. 450 is much more reachable and can be done with the Tick stage 2 cam and well ported 243s.

You can do ported LS3s but those don't let you run too much of a cam before getting into PTV issues so you may not reach 500 unless you flycut.

Stock TB should be more than fine and go with a Vic Jr. or truck FAST intake.

I was expecting an actual tank with a LS motor.

I feel slightly let down now.
