Default question on LS2 Lifter tool / dowel rod

I heard i can just use some dowel rods to keep the lifters from falling during a cam install. What size diameter do i need again? And is there an approximate length? Maybe someone can measure theirs for me???

Also - If get a steel dowel rod will it scratch up stuff inside? Let me know if you guys have any other tricks or advice when using this "tool". Doing my cam install on my 06 CTSV here soon.

Thnx

Use 5/16" wooden dowels or 5/16" brake line flattened on one side into a "D" shape. You'll need two 18" pieces (plus some extra length for a "handle")...

I used 5/16 wooden dowels and it worked great. Cost like $4 from lowes.
