L92 worth it
Im talking about a stright up L92 motor....Are they worth building? From my understanding all the big difference is the VTT....
When I state building, I want a High compression, high hp motor. (600+ all motor)
If thats more work than it should be could I go the Whipple route and make 650+hp?
If it would be cheaper to sell the motor and get something else as a block to start with please chim in....I would think the the 6.2L is a good base.
Also check into the VVT cams from TSP or Mast, they make pretty good power alone. Add some more compression and porting and you're probably good.
Source: I've been researching the hell out of this as I have a L92 long block, probably just adding a LSA blower though haha.
Rebuilding a motor is not cheap unless you are a machinist and have done it in the past.
I bought a used l92 short lock for 2 k shipped. Never heard it ran. Seller claim it has less than 50 k miles. I'm not convinced since it's my second motor so I took it to the machine shop.
The motor won't turned due to hydro locked
New Pistons needed every time they honed it
The wrist pin bushings were up to par and he machinist said it's prolly because the last owner shot nitrous on it so I have to get replacement ones and the only company that makes them is crower cams at 12 bucks a pop.
Balancing, n w arp bolts ect ect ended up costing me arnd 2500 plus downtime.
So that's 4500 for just the short block. With that much, you can contact Thompson or texas speed and paid a little extra for a brand new 416 ci or 418 ci short block .
The only different in threads are the valves. The l92 heads used heavier valves.
As far as the short block goes, ls3,lsa and l92 are identiCal.
