Cartek 454 Stage 5X build - Should start tomorrow
#22
the heads/cam combo is my lead suspect to the cause of his short comings. Sux to put all that money into a project and get less than average numbers.
Don't get me wrong...the numbers are nice but not maximizing the potential is the part that sux!

Mine too, the 4X cam is a 238/25x 602 lift and with a 454ci, fast 102, NW and 1 7/8ths headers and no cats I would have thought the car would have been in the 580's/510 thru an auto and having recently done this, I know there's about 15K in this build.

Despite it being what appears to be "down on power", that's a fairly small cam for those cubes. And more importantly, small for when you take into consideration the stroke. With the stalled auto and that small cam, I bet it drives real nice, which probably was his goal I'd guess. It's has a lot of torque too, I bet it blows the tires off when he stomps it.
#25
Agreed.... that is a tiny cam and he might of had the street drive ability in mind but I've seen much better torque curves than that BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is what you get for about $15K had he of ponied up an extra $3k-$5k he could've gone with better flowing heads and we all here understand the importance of air flow (inhale AND exhale) on engine builds.
At the end of the day is he happy with what he has...for now perhaps but speed/power is like crack; we all want more and more.
welcome to the life of a speed/power junkie!!

Dyno numbers don't mean much. I'm happy with the power under the curve. I ran an 11.1 @123-124 in +1100DA with 150 less Hp.
I'd love to see the other stalled autos you comparing mine to. I've searched and haven't seen too many. I know there are some out there, I just want to see apples to apples.

I agree, thousands could! but could they back it up with a time slip? remember cartek tunes to a safe and proper tune not to hit an unreal dyno number with an unsafe tune, Rick came to cartek because of the history of fast cars and now he has one, I would have preferred a cartek built block

I made "only" 785 on Cartek's dyno and ran 9.00 @ 153 in a 3450 lb car. I'm not suggesting that's groundbreaking, but I see a lot of "900hp" cars not do that. And the engine ran flawlessly for 3 years. I'd like to see track times before coming to any conclusions.

Waste of money? I'd put Cartek's track results against any of the "local" Texas shops. Show me a local shop with a NA dyno auto/stalled dyno that you call "something" great. Better yet show me the track results.. Lol. This is a daily driver "non sheet metal" intake car.

I agree lets talk apples to apples not camaros to C6s and not a 2400 lb car dedicated track , were talking heated seats air power windows

Every time I see their name, I see hype, nutswinging, and problems. I am sure, like any LS shop, after being there as long as they have, maybe their stuff has improved.
Like every LS shop, just make sure they give you what you paid for.
Ask for all the engine clearances asap, main bearings, rods, cam, especially piston/wall, valve spring pressures, etc.
In the end, if you get a good short block, you can build from there.

What part of Texas are you in, Im in Dallas, I can get to the motorplex or any of the numerous Runway events we have. I have a 6 speed though and need intake and 1 7/8 headers..

Car should run well at the track, let's wait and see how it does before passing judgement.
I've always had great service and results with Cartek, they've been modifying/tuning my cars for over 14 years now.

Thanks, its a 3800pa yank that Dave custom made, its a single disk and it couples great and quickly at part throttle for the street. I had a vig for years and the yank out 60 ft by 0.11 and thats a part throttle launch

Damn, looks like it hooks pretty well then just takes off, awesome job man.
