Default Better motor combo?

Planning a rebuild for my road race car and trying to piece together a nice longblock for broad power delivery. For around the same price the two choices are:

LS3 block with GMPP LS3 heads and LS3 intake

LS2 block with either PRC as cast or AI 232 heads and FAST 102 intake

Both will be cammed similarly with the only variance being about the heads themselves.

Would one or the other block make for a broader and more power, or am I splitting hairs here?

Both will do what you want.

I'd probably do the LS2 block with the As-Cast heads, FAST 102, and a Solid Roller.

After speaking with the engine builder and cam guy I will be staying with the cathedrals. However I am now just considering also keeping the current heads I have now which are AI 232cc 243 heads with the regular solid valves.

The PRCs do have a little bit more airflow and now come with lightweight valves, will that make a decent difference in power and/or ability to run 7000rpm or is that enough for the AI heads?

I don't think you'd pick up anything regardless of what anyone says. All these heads are probably within 10HP of each other when a FAST is added to the mix.

I still would do the LLSR though. That will add more power than a swap of heads.

I agree with Jake, Cathedral Heads and LLSR, Also I believe the cathedral
Heads drain back the oil a little better in Road Racing situations
Versus LS3s, read about that in the CF road race section. Research and invest
In your oil system, lot you can do before dry -sump to improve
Reliability/Longevity.
