2008 LY6 is this a good starting platform?
I am super new to LS engines and don't know anything about a ly6. I know it's an iron block and its supossed to be able to mate up to a t56 with ease. Can someone let me know what kind of future I would have with this engine in my square body pickup?
Thanks ahead of time
If you get a LY6, invest $225.00 in LS3 intake valves. (hollow stems) as the stock intake valves are solids and prone to dropping. If the motor is low milage, you can merely lap the valves in. www.paceperformance.com

First, I would do springs. They do wear, and the heavier valves does put a strain on them. Second, I MIGHT consider intake valves. If money allows, do both.
My LY6 has over 170,000 miles, no troubles at all.

I am running the hollow stem ls3 gm valve, btr springs locks and ti retainers, custom shaft and gm lifters. would have left the factory lifters but mine was a higher mileage deal and it was cheap insurance. cut the heads 0.050 and have a 0.030 head gasket. btr trunion upgrade in the factory rockers. victor jr carb intake.
pretty basic setup and relatively inexpensive way to make 600+hp. the L92 heads are awesome. it will basically come down to what camshaft you run.

Did you check V2P clearance? 3pedals' build pretty cool.
Another impressive build is Futureuser's build thread. IIRC, he left the solid valves and merely stepped up to a Vengeance Racing http://vengeanceracing.net/ cam kit with double springs. He also did his swap during the winter in HIS DRIVEWAY. lol. Crazy dude. BTW.... he is a AMD supplier. I was amazed how much money he saved me.
I spoke with TEA about this at length when they ported my L92 heads. They gave me good $$$ for my stock solid stem valves and I upgraded to the ls3 hollow stems....I think I paid around $100 and my old valves for new hollow stems....only reason I upgraded was it was cheap....same reason why I went with the platinum springs,it was a cheap upgrade, not that it was a needed upgrade.
Maybe you could share some links?
I just had my heads off, swapped springs, and added ls9 head gasket and arp bolts. If I had known about the "valve dropping issue", I would have swapped those at the same time.

some pics a few posts lower.
There was more conversation about this when I was looking for a angine. One guy on here just swapped a LY6 and he dropped a valve shortly afterwards. WHile they may not be a common as the LS7 guid/valve problem, there is a problem.

Isuzu requires cores to be as delivered, and able to rotate 360 degrees.
It's now like this waiting to go to my machine shop.

Gonna be hot tanked, mains aligned honed for pinned billet main caps, sonic checked and bored to .060" over and honed with torque plates. New cam bearings, and rod and main bearings, and full balancing. Should come in at a decent price too.
