LS7 and LS1 cam fitment questions
The changes were in the cam sensor location. In a nut shell, a Gen III cam will work in a Gen IV block without issue, but a Gen IV cam requires the Gen IV timing cover and cam gear to work in a Gen III block due to the sensor being moved to the front of the motor. You will obviously also need an extension harness.
The only other thing to look out for if you select a Gen IV engine is, if you plan on using a throttle cable, to make sure the crank has a 24x reluctor wheel on it. If it has a 58x reluctor, you need to remove the crank and switch to a 24x reluctor or get the Lingenfelter crank signal conversion box. In my opinion, the conversion box shouldn't even be considered as it just adds a point of failure.
