What type of racing? 500 flywheel n/a will be tough.... Much easier with a 6.0 block.

You could bore it to 3.9" and make a 5.7 with the stock crank. Running ported heads that could make 500 flywheel.

Thank God that isn't one of the copper cranks in there. Those don't hold up well to racing.

We have a search feature. You can search old and recent threads where the questions you're asking have already been answered and debated. You can even look at the Dyno Results section to see what parts made what horsepower/torque on different cars/dyno's.

You're basically going to find that you can bore and hone the cylinders to 3.90x" and make a 347 with the stock crank. If you meant 500hp at the flywheel, this should be adequate. With a 4" crank, you can get 383ci which will be better if your goal is 500hp at the tires. You can also run larger strokes, but most people are scared to...

Then people will recommend cathedral heads; anything from ported 243 castings to aftermarket heads like TFS/PRC/AFR/MMS/etc.

And as you already know, people will then recommend you call [insert cam guru name here] to spec you a cam.

If you bore the block, then you will be essentially going with a bigger engine, FYI.

If you want to maintain the ~5.3 liters of displacement, then I would take a 6.0 block and use the smaller crank and rods from the 4.8. That way, you have the larger bore of the 6.0 and still maintain the desired displacement of roughly 5.3L. I guess it would be 5.4L at that point (329 vs 325 cubic inches).
