I Stopped it in a 6.0 by spaying chem tool in the lifter holes running engine flush for 5 minutes and doling an oil and filter change.
A 4.8 needed to be run for 500 miles with a quart of transmission fluid.
A 4.8 needed a pickup tube gasket due to air being sucked into the oiling system.
I did all of this to a 5.3 plus replacing the lifters. It ended up replacing the heads with a good set with low miles on them and it stopped it.
I wish I would have had those heads looked at while I was replacing the lifters.
Worn valve seals, carbon buildup on the valves, and weak springs will cause that noise also.
