Default In Knee Deep

Looks like I should've created this post two weeks ago, b4 I began buying parts
I've already paid for the LS3 heads #821, they are at the shop awaiting a spring upgrade. I've paid for the longer rods as well. My buddy HAD a Holley 750DP that I was gonna use on this combo, but he sold it. I see a 950 carb and polished LS intake for sale on a dragracing website for 800, I'm thinking aboubt offering him $650 or so this Friday for it. I want my motor to be able to spin to 7000 rpm if need be. I know, I know.. .BUDGET and LS and 7000RPM do not belong in the same sentence lolI will keep you all posted as I acquire more parts.

Actually they do rev to 7k easily with a good valve train combination.

Default How's this cam?

http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...csid=1094&sb=2

This is the cam I'm using for my lq4 build. Mated with my 821 cast heads and Diamond Pistons flat top two eyebrow relief. Can I reach 600hp?

Just a small correction it's been stated a couple different times here . That the LQ4 cr is 9.5 ....... It is actually 9.4 to 1. so there is .6 difference between it and the LQ9

Default quick update

So, after talking to Diamond Pistons about ordering some of their pistons for my combination, we found out that the LQ4 block I have is not a good fit for my 821 heads. they said the heads were too big for the block, and I would be shrouding the valves of the heads due to the smaller bore in the block

So my builder came up with a deal on a NEVER USED LQ4 block that is bored over .060". Has anyone ever heard of or used a LS block that has been hogged out that much? I should have some pics soon. I just wanted to run it across you all for some feedback, I figured if anyone knew, this would be the place to get some good info

I've heard that they aren't ideal but I also know that my LY6 6.0 block came with 821 heads from the factory and plenty of people run them on stock bore 6.0 LQ4 LQ9 and LY6 blocks and make good power.

Instead of guessing on a cam, look at Cam Motion. They have shelf cams that are specced for single plane/carb apps. They actually have a couple cams that will work with the LS3 heads. Stay away from Comp Cams.

The iron 6.0L block in my Trans Am is at 4.065" with LS3 pistons and rods. The 6.0L iron block for my Mustang is at 4.060". Its fine for N/A engines, but I wouldn't recommend doing it with a power adder.

Also as LosingIt already said, there are factory 4" bore engines that came with the LS3 style heads so it's not like it won't work. It may not be ideal, but plenty of people have made really good power with that combination.

Default motor mounts

Can someone point me in the direction of where to go to get some motor mount plates to mount it in 4th gen Nova? Anyone up on ICT Billet?

edit: And why should I stay away from comp's line of camshafts?

Comp puts out some junk, quality control sucks. There is a thread on here all about it.

HCI2000SS, I would like to know who your tuner is. Building an LS2, mild build, (cam, headers, hand ported 243's). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Taz, Are you keeping the FI, or going carb? Also what cam are you going with if you don't mind? What type of power are you expecting?

I am keeping the FI. Comp Cam specs are 234/239@.050, 595/601 lift. 1 3/4 Hooker long tubes. I hope to get 450 rwhp.
