Default What mods to go 12.0

Hi I have a GTO that I would like to go 12.0 in sportsman class. I have intake, longtube headers, programmer, nitto 555, lovell springs.
Traction has not been an issue after the new tires. the car is running 12.8 ish @ 108-109mph. I'm thinking of a head cam kit I should have a 3k budget to make it happen but if I can do it for less that's cool.

I did do a search but it seems that all I found was cars running high 12's or mid 11's and I don't think the car will be consistent on nitrous.

It would probably help saying if your GTO is an LS1 or LS2. Manual or Auto trans.

Nittos are not the best drag tire. If you must run Nittos get the 555R

What are your current 60' times? Do you have drag shocks on the car?

Sorry good points. 2006 ls2, A4, headers, catless mids, spintech with x pipe, cai, programmer, lovell rear springs. polly motor mounts, and nitto 555r.
1.94-60'
12.78 1/4
109.66 mph
That best pass was like 68f out side at about 500' in redding ca.

thinking of things like sending in the intake to get ported and throttle body but have not seen any real solid numbers yet on that. converter, drive line. idk im open to ideas just want to get near 12.0 and be able to do it with cost effective mods so if i want to go faster i can get more later with out redoing mods.

Btw the rear tires touched at the track last time out so ill be doing drag bags for sure.

have not been able to back up that pass. its 12.90 on the reg with normal day time temps 78-80

Tyres, converter, diff gears, OTRCAI and MAFLESS tune will get you very close to your goals.

Three cars that I know of listed below.

Our 2001 Monaro with 243 headed LS1
CompCam 228 228 .588" .588" 113
Ramjet OTRCAI
1 5/8 tri Y headers
3" cats
Stock HSV twin 2 1/4" system
3,500 converter
3.73:1 diff gears
Mickey Thompson 245/40/18.

This combo went 12.09

Changed to FAST 90, twin 2 1/2" system with )( pipe, 4,200 converter, 4.1:1 diff gears, Mickey Thompson 265/40/18 and ultimately went 11.79.

VY sedan with stock LS1, 5,000+ convertor, OTRCAI, 1 3/4" 4>1, twin 2 1/2", 4.1:1 diff gears.

This was good for 12.1.

VX Calais that was running 12.65 with stock LS1 with OTRCAI, 1 3/4" 4>1, twin 2 1/2", 3,500 converter and 3.91:1 diff gears.
Changed to a crate LS3 and went 11.7 on first pass.

I would have one of the sponsors(Martin at smallwood racing, Kip cam motion or Brian Tooley btr or others) spec you a cam first since the cam swap is an easier job. Then if you still need to get lower have your heads ported since you have the 243 heads already.

Heads cam to go 12.0's with an LS2 ?

your 110 trap says your already making low 12's power , my m6 stock internals car has been 11.9 on 111 trap and my stock internals 3600 stall a4 car has been 12.1 @112 so your power is right there just need to get that 60 foot down 2 or 3 clicks.

I would say start with a good quality convertor , if your racing it a lot think 4000-4200 stall , 3600 minimium ,large trans cooler goes hand in hand .

its not uncommon to drop 6-8 tenths with a good convertor - don't be afraid to go aggressive as most come with a free restall and you see a lot more posts with people that went 3600 wishing they went higher than the other way around.

Your nittos may not hold with a good stall (yank , circle d , fti , etc..) but seriously start there and then better tires if your having a hard time with traction again , it is the best bang for the buck mod for an a4 car and I think you will be able to easily chip away at your goal with bolt ons from there. A good stall puts you immediately in the meat of the powerband and stays right in the powerband after shifts ( good tight shift extension)

I would never open up what GM put together if bolt ons could achieve a goal , when you achieve it and want to go 11.0's then do the heads/cam... not to mention when you cam a convertor is about mandatory- cam without convertor = turd stick quite often lol

Very simple. 3.90 gear and Yank SS4000 and you'll be in the high 11s. And all for a fraction of your $3000 budget.

Just remember the gto weighs more than the camaro and corvette. When i had my 05 gto 6 speed manual i had 1 3/4 kooks headers and highflow cats, corsa catback, cai and a tune. I dynoed 368 at the wheels and went a best of 12.45 at 114 on a 70 degree day at englishtown on drag radials. With a better 60 ft i could probably have hit high 12.3's. Hard to launch with the gto irs with a stick.I would think with some good tires and a small cam you can hit 12.0.
