15 camaro LS3 Cam Change question
I got a guy quoting me 26 hours to replace the cam in this car. He says his information tells him the heads and the oil pan have to be removed. Is this true or can it be done with the old method of holding up the lifters? Ive searched a bit ...not a ton and couldn't really find a cam writeup on a 15 specifically. Steer me in the right direction if any of you have done one.

Heads shouldn't come off unless you are changing the lifters. Took me 16 hrs to swap out my cam in my 13 camaro. Also this was my finstructor attempt at swapping cams so I took my time doing it.

Heads only need to be removed if you change lifters, I reused my 70k lifters and had no problems. Oil pan will need to be dropped but not removed, I used an engine cradle to lift the motor for a bit more room. took me about 10 hours for cam, springs, oil pump/chain, and headers. Mine is a 2010 M6, the Autos take a bit more time.

A cam change can be done in a day or less by an experienced mechanic. The fact your mechanic is quoting a book tells me you should look elsewhere for this install. I did it in less than a day on my first time working on an LS. Lifter change does require head removal but still nowhere near 26 hours.

Don't the auto cars have DOD and VVT / L99 engine (not sure if yours is auto or not)? If so, are you putting in a non DOD/VVT cam? It would make sense if that was the case. Heads would have to come off to change out lifters.
