Buying an LS3 crate engine, looking to lower the compression without bottom end mods
I've looked around for used LS3's, and people want gold for them, to the point where new seems like a better deal.
With the money I'll make from flipping my old setup, I'd only be paying about 2k out of pocket.
I thought about buying a 6.0 iron block engine, but the weight and rolling the dice on a worn truck engine concerns me. Obviously the internet raves about LS truck engines, but guys and yards around here want $1k-2k for anything over 100k in mileage. Buying LS engines around me really sucks.
Forged short blocks are a decent deal, but for what they're rated for, I'm better off going stock for my power level. Plus buying a crate engine is cheaper at that point.
If I was turbo, I'd absolutely go L33 5.3, but this procharger doesn't make near the power of a turbo setup, or potentially.
Plus I realy want to drive this car, winter will be a month away by the time I'm done with this thing.
My 2 biggest 'common sense' cost savings?
1. Don't blow money on a crate engine that isn't even ideal for what you're doing.
2. Building something is always cheaper than buying it. It was either $9000 for an F2 kit, or $3300 for twin turbos.
