Good universal cam degree kit?
Good universal cam degree kit? Hello all,
I'm looking to get a kit so I can degree the cam and make sure it's installed right in my LS3. It has 4 degrees advance built into the cam, and I want to make sure it's in it's proper place when installed. However, this will probably be the only LS engine I work with for quite some time, and I feel like $180 for a specific LS/small block kit would be wasted after one use. I see kits like the Trick Flow I listed go for less, are "universal" for all cams and can even work with setting up gears in differentials. I'll be swapping in a big block in my truck, and rebuilding the rear diff, so this kit would be very ideal for me. I don't mind spending money on a good kit that I will use multiple times, I just hate spending money on one tool and never use it more than once.

Looks like it will work pretty well. One thing to consider is the degree wheel diameter. The smaller is the less accurate, however, the smaller ones fit in more engine bays than the larger wheels.

So I used the kit to degree my cam. Great kit for the money, I like the quality and the setup. My only complaint is that I wish I bought a bigger wheel, the accuracy was fine, but it would be nice to have a big solid wheel to grab on to and spin the rotating assembly to get the measurements more accurate and control the spinning. However in my case I don't plan on working on another LS engine anytime soon, so this still works out. If you LS everything or work on them a lot, I would highly recommend a kit with a solid and bigger degree wheel meant for LS engines.
