Default GM LS Hot Cam & Springs

We own a brand new LS3 Crate Motor from GMPP. A GM LS Hot Cam is being installed at this time, Hydraulic Roller, Duration at .050 in. 219/228, Lift .525/.525. The kit came with a set of LS6 springs. It is my understanding that the LS3 springs do not need to be changed. Is this correct? It is going to be an off-road engine, and will never go above 4500rpm.

Thanks for your help!

The LS3 and LS6 springs are the same. They are good to 0.550 lift. No need to change them for the GM LS Hot Cam.

I would check pushrod length after you do your cam install.

Really? A hot cam swap for an engine that's never gonna see 4500+ RPMs?

I'd go with one of the Cam Motion truck drop ins over the LS Hot cam in this situation.

Yes your standard LS3 springs would be sufficient with the GM Hot Cam.

Some of us have better things to do than change valve springs every year. I bought a crate with a HotCam for my Miata. I'm replacing it with an ASA cam this winter ... another "tame" GM cam that won't require any extra maintenance. I can just drive the car, which is how I like it.

Yes, that's the way I see it. Since time began, all GM performance cams are designed with gradual ramps so engines will run well (and rev well) with 100K miles, same valve springs. This, while knowing they are sacrificing a few HP.

Top performer? No. But they sound great and are very easy on the valve train
