LS3 crate engine price increase
After saving my allowance for nearly four years I was ready to pull the trigger and purchase a new LS3 crate engine from Gandrud Chevy. It had been $6020.00 for several years. I pulled up their website to place the order and was shocked to see it at $6528.99. I searched every dealer nationwide and the price is the same, down to the penny, at every one. Anyone know what's going on? A $509 increase is unacceptable.
There was/is also a $500 rebate on the engine until the end of 2016 (not accounted for in the price listed above). I tried to claim it, but GM rejected me for some reason. I need to call and find out why. I suspect that even though I bought a legit GM Performance LS3, since I did not have it installed at a certified dealer, they will not give me the rebate. I find that rather shady, as this was not stipulated on the rebate form, and the form was provided by Summit when I bought my crate engine.
The block prices have gone up not to mention some of the other internal components.
Inflation. All that participate in the current monetary system are subject to it.

My guess is that GM will have a surplus of a couple thousand crate engines that will be available to vendors and the public for a number of years down the road......just like they did (on a more limited basis) with the 2nd generation LT1/4 small block.....
But hell.....it's just a guess.

If I had to say, I think they'll try and phase out the LS3 crate engine like they did with the old LT1, LS1, and LS2 motors in the next year or two, especially once they discontinue the SS sedan and the Holden brand since they are the last production vehicles that still use it. As for the iron block LSX motors, I'd expect them to either stay or have new iron LTX block based on gen V architecture, we'll have to see but it would be stupid for GM to discontinue those without a replacement.
The only thing that worries me about the gen V motors is the special PCV system to reduce carbon deposits on the intake valves due to direct injection, only time will tell how well that works. Also AFM and VVT can be a blessing and a curse with these motors, hopefully it's easily disabled if needed.
FYI EB110 that $500 rebate was just for crate engines with the turn key harness kit thing, or with a transmission. Not just for the engine. I tried, but I didn't qualify.
