Ls3 new piston and rings vertical marks???
I have been so so careful with this build that I must have spent at least twenty minutes per cylinder wall making sure they were clean with atf etc. And they were spotless.
Installed my new rings on the pistons yesterday. Made sure they were clean too. Oiled the cylinders lightly and the skirts and ring lands.
After turning the crank a few times to do 7 and 8 I noticed vertical marks on the cylinder walls!!!
I can't feel any of them with a fingernail, but as you can see the marks are there.
Out of frustration I wiped a cylinder wall and it came up dark? They and the rings were cleaned beyond an inch of their life, how can there be black stuff showing now?
They are JE pistons and rings., rings are part number JG31F8-4070-0
Nitrate 1.2x1.5x3.0
Could this be the mole of the Napier bedding in??
Any help appreciated.
End gap was checked within spec and filed accordingly by my machine shop.
RUN high zinc/suphur break in oil, Joe gibbs sells one as do others... Google cam break-in and the Compucam paper on it. The surfaces of your new cam and lifters will thank you..
