Default New cam install during DOD delete

Doing the DOD delete on an 07 Silverado 5.3. Replaced cam with factory cam from 4.8. Notice the cam has front to back play after installing Cam retainer, didn't notice that with original cam. I did compare the cam lengths and seems identical. And there was no bushing or filler between the face of cam and retainer plate. Is that bit of play normal, it's almost 1/4"?

By the way, anyone doing this on a 2 wheel drive, go ahead and drop the oil pan since your that far anyway. It comes off easy. That way you can replace the oil p/u tube/strainer, clean the pan out (found a surprising amount of gunk in mine) and get oil pump and timing chain set up off much easier. At 140K i'm going ahead with new cam/crank sprockets and chain.

Think I figured it out. Appears that when the Cam gear is installed the protrusion on the back of the gear creates the spacer to position the camshaft in it's proper alignment and makes up for the play. Just seemed strange that there was that much slop front to back..

Is there any reason you are going with a smaller cam than your stock 5.3 cam, You may end up losing power. You already have it tore down, a small BTR Truck Stage 2 cam will gain around 50 rwhp.

Stock LR4 4.8 and LM7 5.3 cams are the same.

That may be true, but this is in the Gen4 section. The LMG and LY5 use a 193/193 .480/.480 116+2. The Gen4 LY2 4.8 uses a 190/191 .466/.457 114

Oh OK, I forgot the DOD cams are different. The 4.8 cam is the same as before, but the LMG/LY5 cams pick up a few degrees duration and a bit of lift. So he lost a little bit by putting the 4.8 cam in.

Normally with dod delete youd want to drop the pan anyway and put a plug in the pressure relief valve in the pan. another afm only thing.
