Default Stock Cam Replacement - AFM DOD

So this is the second time my engine has been apart. First time at 45k miles....now at 102k miles. Dealer took care of the first failure on the drivers side front cylinder.....collapsed lifter, oil consumption problem.....new pistons, new rings, rebuilt heads.....
Now, Im on the hook for the passenger side front cylinder failure. It developed a clacking noise. My mechanic removed the head on the passenger side and replaced all 8 lifters (4 reg, 4 AFM) thinking must be a collapsed lifter. All back together and it is still clacking. We verified it is coming from #2 cylinder intake by removing the valve cover and using a stethescope on the rocker while running.....even tried moving the rocker arm from another cyl.
This has to be a worn lobe on the cam...?
No codes....it even runs pretty smooth.
So......do we need to remove the heads and intake again to remove the cam?
I just want to put the stock cam back in so I can get the clack to stop and go buy a new vehicle!
Thanks

I can't answer if you need to pull the head to remove the DOD cam but.............I just took the DOD cam out of my Suburban, you can have it (if you want it) You cover the shipping.

You do not need to remove the heads to pull the cam.
