Default LS3 Block - 4.085 bore

My current LS3 block is a 4.080 bore with JE 2618 forged pistons. They were setup on the higher side of JE specs and slap a lot. I've been researching and everything I can find says the ls3 block has a max bore of 4.085. My setup is all NA, no boost or nitrous. I know it would probably be best to just have it sonic checked. However, was curious if anyone is currently running that bore size? If anyone else has gone to 4.085 and has been running that way for any length of time, let me know. Just trying to find a more budget friendly option rather than a new short block.

It could depend on how well-centered the sleeves are. I know mine are off pretty bad, I went to 4.070" and feel it would be pushing it to go farther...

Default Rings First for Size

Hi, yes Sonic and make SURE that you have a common "stocked" ring size. (103.759 mm)

I had the block checked and the cylinders averaged .075 to .085 in thickness. Is that too thin to move forward with 4.085? I don't know what the recommended is for an ls3 block.

That's encouraging. But each gm block can be a little different right? I also know someone who had a 4.080 bore develop a hole in the liner. I guess it just makes me nervous that I could get it back together and just have it all go to **** again.

I am hoping to get mine bored next week, going from 4.070 to 4.085 with JE pistons.

I've heard of some people still having piston slap sounds from JE's assymeterical (SP) pistons. Who knows what was truly the culprit though. Who built the engine?

I have a set of SRP 4.085 pistons I'm not going to be using. They're forged, made by JE, but they're 4032 vs the 2618 alloy. They also have skirt coatings. I'll be sending them back soon unless someone wants to buy them. Brand new in the box.

I had JE 2618, was supposed to be at least .005 piston to wall. I was told by the local machine shop( in Canton OH) that was how they set it up. Well after tearing it down and having a different machinist check it, they had damn near doubled that measurement. I will never use them again, complete garbage from top to bottom. Tried to talk to them about how messed up it was and they insisted it was right and offered no help at all.

I would get a new block. You risk wasting all your $ and time otherwise. I think Summit has LS3 blocks at a reasonable price.
