Question Tool for servicing a single valve spring

Greetings all,

I just recently finished a hybrid swap, brand new GMPP LS3 crate into a Nissan 240sx. After the first 30 mi break in period I decided to remove the headers to heat wrap them. This is when I noticed a small amount of oil (kinda wet) on the #6 exhaust port, compared to the more "chalky" carbon build up on the rest of the ports. Further inspection is showing oil to be seeping through from the valve stems so I suspect a valve stem seal.

Now my question is: will Tim's valve spring compressor tool work without having to remove the valve rocker arm pivot support? All of the write-up I've seen removes all of the rocker arms and the rocker arm pivot support. I'm trying to avoid all of that and just trying to service the #6 exhaust valve. I'm thinking of using the valve spring tool you can rent from the part store but research is telling me to stay away from that. Any input is much appreciated! Thanks

If you are using beehive springs you can use a spring compressor like this one.

The one that LS1MCSS posted is a PIA to use, and pretty sketchy. I would recommend the LSM SC-167. Although it is pretty expensive, it's easy to use and works well even with the rocker stands still in place. Although with that being said, it's not that big of a hassle to remove all the rockers and stands on that head. In that case, you could buy one of the cheaper ones that compress both springs at once.

Bellow is my suggestions ...

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/ls-valve-spring-compressor

Or...

The slotted hole means it can be used in any head style ls engine.

The ones Camster linked are the easiest option. I use the Comp version and can do 2 valvesprings at once.
