LS3 Dirt late model engine
Hi guys and girls.
I am now building my first LS engine to be fitted to a Dirt late model. So far I have sleeved ls3 block, eagle 4.00" crank, eagle 6.125 rods, JE 4.130 pistons. not looking for huge hp numbers low 600 with some nice long torque would be perfect. We normally run Normal 'old' sbc engines with external dry sump systems with pump spun by a belt on gearbox input shaft. I have purchased a moroso dry sump pan for the engine, is it as simple as not fitting the oil pump on the crank to convert to dry sump? does the barbell need to be modified etc to ensure pressure does not bleed past? Any help appreciated

Don't try to roll your own here. Go with whatever the dry sump component mfr. says to do. Don't just omit the OEM pump.

Aviaid is a good source for dry dump systems, Kurt Urban could probably help out as well.
It's been a while since I've installed one, but I seem to remember feeding the pressurized oil into the block at the port on the driver side just above the #5 main cap side bolt. Then we plugged the two ports in the oil pan rail and then inserted a plug in the main passage between those ports where the barbell would go.

Al Barnes Systems
Hi Dale, I used Al Barnes for my Lola 332 pump rebuilds/parts.
Today I work with Wegner Automotive with knowledge gained from the creation of the NASCAR GN-West LS engine specification.
So I ask about your rules for engine specification ?
Examples : Oil Pump Length, Ignition, Intake Manifold & CFM for Carb/EFI ?
My Choices :
Wegner Water Pump
Wegner Drive Kit with ATI
The "barbell" question is related to the Oil Pan design and Filter Location.
There is GOOD TECH here at "LS-1 Tech" from Saccitycorvette "dumbell" as they supplied/posted the Oil Galleries Flow Path
I would fit an external GM TWO QUART truck filter.
I would fit my internal oil filter magnet.
I can supply these items and/or help with tech, just call.
