Default Questions on DOD delete for 2010 Silverado 5.3

I'm looking to order a DOD delete kit from TSP for my buddies truck. It's a 2010 WT 1500 with a 5.3. There's quite a few different options to choose from with the kit. I haven't tore the engine down yet, so I can't tell if it has VVT or not. Anyway to tell without having the front of the engine apart? Also what valley cover do I need to order it with? L92 cover or LS3 cover? And will I need the 3 bolt conversion? And finally, the GM 5.3 LM7 cam is $70 more than the LS9 cam. Any reason not to go with the LS9? Will the LS9 work with stock valve springs? And how would it run without being tuned for it?

If I remember correctly, all 2010 and newer 5.3 engines have VVT. You can tell by the odd buldge from the timing cover with an electronic connector on it.

The L92 valley cover is a better option since you will not be using the PCV port on the other Valley Cover.

The 3-Bolt Conversion depends on the cam you are using. LM7 for example is a 3-Bolt. Usually all Gen4 engines have a single bolt cam.

You will need a tune regardless. Stock performance go with the LM7. If you want more power, I would use an aftermarket cam, the LS9 is designed for higher RPM power and great for boost do to the LSA.

Yeah just looking for stock performance. Just don't understand why the LS9 cam is $70 cheaper than the LM7 cam lol. Can't really tell what timing cover is on it with the water pump on it right now. Is there anything special I need to order if it does have the vvt? Will the 3 bolt conversion be all I need?

Well finally got ready to start the truck. But the cam position sensor will not plug into the new ls3 timing cover. The truck did have VVT so I went ahead and ordered a ls3 cover with sensor and all already in it. But the plug in on the truck harness is a 5 pin where the ls3 cam sensor is a 4 pin. So does anyone have any useful tips on what I need to do to get this thing plugged up??!!??

Would have been nice if Texas Speed would had gave me this bit of information instead of saying, “oh yeah all you need is the front timing cover”.

Just read an old thread on performance trucks about it. Says you can just use the vvt cam sensor harness. Just zip tie the cam phaser plug in out of the way.
