Don’t know if anyone is following this but I came up with a way to check ptv clearance without having to keep taking the phaser apart to change from full advance to full retard. I took a phaser bolt (my old one) and removed the center clip, valve, and spring. Then I determined which holes on the bolt did what and found the third set of holes down from the bolt head send oil into the phaser and push the fins to retard the phaser. Knowing that, I plug welded all the holes except those and flapdisc sanded the plug welds down flush. Then I welded a steel airline fitting into the center of the bolt. So now when to put air to the bolt it makes the phaser go full retarded ( or in my case to the limiter block). So just sitting with no air pressure/right from the factory you can bolt these phasers on check full advanced ptv. Then put air on it and check full retarded ptv clearance. Tomorrow I will post pictures. Information on the vvt stuff I have found is pretty limited nothing to in depth except very few threads on here. Maybe what I am learning will help someone someday.

Still waiting on oil pan. Also need crank,cam sensor and vvt solenoid. Going to replace those while I’m at it since they are hard to get to.
Only thing left is oil pan and sensors. Also installed stainless exhaust studs.

The silver vein color is awesome!


Valve covers, ignition coils and valley cover installed. Also if someone is interested in a brand new valley cover let me know. Pay shipping and it’s yours.

looking good, I swapped the cam in my 2012 yukon denali deleted the DOD, kept VVT. TSP 218/228 .600/.600. I think i found the same info on comps website about the later actuator needing a different limiter. I installed the 5456 block. iirc one limits to 14* the other to 20* of retard. tsp told me the same thing their grind wont benefit from that much retard anyway. Got about 10k miles on it, all has been good

runs ok for what it is...5900lbs,
14.9 stock with just tune
13.6 with cam/headers/3k stall so far. doing some suspension tweaking hoping to cut 60' down a little might get another tenth or two off it
