5.3 Cylinder Wall

5.3 Cylinder Wall
The wife and I removed the pistons, rods and the crankshaft today trying to get it ready for the machine shop. Everything looks great except we notice a little bit of a chip in a brown block section located at the bottom of #6 cylinder. Is this something we should be worried about or is this something that the machine shop will be able to take care of with some honing. Thanks for all the help and Happy Holidays.
The chip is at the 4 O'Clock position
The chip is at the bottom just slightly to the left
Chip is at the 5 O'Clock position. There was a little white hair that got in the cylinder wall just above it.. Its not a scratch in the wall

From your pictures, it looks as though that rectangular section has never been touched by a hone...weird.

There are two perfectly shaped rectangles in every cylinder opposite from one another. I have never seen this before. The guy I bought the engine from said it came from a 2005 Tahoe with 58K miles. While I was in the process of tearing it down, I noticed that the engine is a Gen IV internally and a Gen III externally. Thanks again for all the help.

Looks like the baked on oil is where the piston skirt misses the lower cylinder wall...

No worries. Your machinist will clean it all up.

"Oil monitors" are not accurate in these newer vehicles. People should follow regular maintenance schedule's
As to the gen 4 internal in a gen 3 block. 2005 was the first year they did that so it perfectly normal as to what your seeing.
