Default Turbo Cam Specification

Hi 286, my vote = NO with a turbo.

The torque range is VERY HIGH, add 30* at .050".

The cam will run like a 258/270 with a turbo.

We tried MANY Comp Cam cams a Westec for a Chevy-Hi article.

The best found camshaft was a stock Z-06 with 1250HP reported at 22 PSI Turbo boost 6K RPM.

Can you tell us more about this? What motor and heads? The reason I ask is I have seen a turbo 5.3 with a ls6 cam run almost 150 1/4 @ 3100 pounds. I thought that was pretty impressive.

Hi Lance.

can you explain more about the “torque range” and adding 30* duration at 050?

does that mean the location of peak torque will mimick a cam that large? Aren’t there a huge number of other factors regarding the turbo itself that determine powerband and spool?

Default Camshaft Design

Hi Sparks, yes you are correct.

NO, the engine must lite to "spool'
To be "fair" a good turbo MATCH between CID, Camshaft is VERY important, as you state.

JLee, the engine was assembled when the LS-1 was born with a 4.1" Crankshaft and a 3.9 Bore.
The article was for Chevy-HI, the editor Ro M, tested at Westec by Steve B.
Comp paid for the Bench Dyno Test.
The first problem was their (comp) Valve SPRINGS BROKE, the Beehive Spring.
Many Comp cams were tested, those supplied ran very poor.
Steve decided to install the Z-06 stock GM camshaft to determine what the problem was with the engine.
The engine ran perfect.

MY ECU-882C was used at that time as it was the best one to run on pump fuel AND easy to tune.
My IGN-1 Coils were fitted.

The engine was later installed into Ro's Mid Engine car.
