Default What cam for the LS3 would you use?

I just picked up my LS3 longblock yesterday and I already need to find a cam for it. I want a real aggressive Idle unlike my current motor. What would you guys buy? I really like the sound of the Kaotic cam but I want some other choices before I decide what to order. Motor has the OE blue springs in it and not to sure i need to upgrade those as well but i suspect I do. Are the pushrods 7.4mm'S, cuz i have a left over set I didnt use? Run some diferent Cams by me so I can make a wise choice. Here is a pic of the motor I bought for 4,600 shipped with under 500 miles on it, i think I got a pretty decent deal.

If you can it for high rpm power, you'll get a cool sounding idle by default. How high you plan to rev? Daily drive?

FWIW, you'll typically make peak tq at 4800, power at 6300 unless you go with different intake runners, massive cam, etc. if you make peak at 6300, don't be afraid to rev to 7200. If you start thinking 7200 redline, think 232/244 for the cam.

Like I said, that'll have a cool sounding idle. Just cam it for power.

Its just a second vehicle/toy. Probably only drive it from time to time. Possible trip to the strip for fun only. I just need a great sounding Cam this time around.

I'd say do 232/244-113+4 or something similar. Call cammotion up and they probably have something really close to that or they can cut you whatever you want. I'm assuming you're keeping the stock rockers, so I'd keep lift below .625, and I'd run the PSI1511 springs. That'll give you a good stable valvetrain and should run pretty well after a proper tune

Can't get better advice than this.

Darth, I'd always heard to keep lift under .600 with stock rockers, but that's "internet intel". You say .625 is a safe limit, and keep the valve tips alive?

We like to keep them under .630" for the general public. Most of our aggressive shelf cams designed for stock rockers have .621" intake lift.

Really sharp guys who understand rocker geometry and are willing to keep an eye on the valve tips and rocker arms will push it to the .650s. But, that is not what I would recommend for your average guy who is going to throw the cam in and go.

Thank you! Sounds like good advice! Though I would go for a trunnion bushing upgrade so the stock needle bearings don't scramble themselves.
