Default Building a NA LS2/3

Starting from a bared used LS2 block, using a set of LS3/L92 heads. Plan to use a mild cam, TSP Stage 1 LS3 or similar. Want this thing to idle smooth and drive really nice, almost like stock to be honest.

Using a stock GM crank & rods, with the pistons chosen below (6.098 .945 Pin). Chose the +9cc pistons so I can keep the compression around stock LS2, though slightly higher without having to mill the heads. From what I understand Weisco uses a valve relief that will accommodate cathedral or square port heads.

Any one see potential any issues with the setup?

Block: GM LS2
Crank: GM 3.622 24X
Rods: GM 6.098 LS2/3 Floating or Scat I beams 2-ICR6100-944P
Pistons: Weisco K0044X1 (4.01 Bore, +9cc, Comp Height 1.311)
Oil Pump: WS6store Mahle Ported.

Heads: GM LS3
Head gasket: Stock LS3 Head Gasket (4.08 bore, .051 thickness)
Cam: TSP Stage 1 LS3 or similar cam kit with required springs.
Other Valve Train: GM crank sprocket / GM 1x cam gear, Katech C5R chain, Delco LS7 lifters. WS6store LS3 rockers with the upgrades.
Intake: Stock LS3, DBC after market throttle body.

Deck Clearance using 9.240: With stock rods and the listed compression height, it should 9.22, so sitting -.02 in the hole. Realize there’s some very slight variance here in block height, but trying to get an educated guess, seem most people use 9.240 as a standard measurement.

Calculated compression: 11.1:1, that’s with a 68CC head, maybe slightly higher with cleanup work to the head if I find a used set. Hoping to pick up a low mile set of heads or buy some new ones.

If the piston is gonna be in the hole, I'd go with a thinner gasket.......like a .030" gasket.

Slightly increases static compression ratio and substantially improves quench.

Another option is to use the Scat 2-ICR6100-944P I beam, I am not sure looking at it how cost effective, buying stock rods, resizing them for ARPs would be, cost of the rod, bolts, resize, etc. Would be in it for just about the same amount. These would piston at the deck. If any one has another piston recommendation, I am open to it. Haven't purchased anything as of yet.

Wiseco has a cheaper Pro Tru line that would work. They only offer them in 4.00" and 4.030", but they can usually make their shelf pistons in a different bore size for a small charge. They have a slightly smaller dome and the rings aren't as sexy, but the CH is 1.335" and you'll probably pay about $450 for the pistons, pins, and rings.

Default RaceTech Pistons

Hi Zatch, I fit/sell Racetec Pistons.
The AutoTec 4032 Alloy is what I would specify @ 4.005"-4.007" with NO COST increase for the "shelf" part change in bore size.

The RINGS are your specification with a 4" "file fit" cost as the lowest. (Steel NPR)
The Deck can also be custom ordered with no cost increase.

YOUR CONCERN should be about piston/pin/ring weight to be specified as LOWER than OEM Values.
This can save engine balance costs.
Wayne Brooks started J.E. pistons at the Racetec plant in HB, CA.
The same C/N/C equipment is used today, the ones JE's were machined with in the past.

I also sell Forged Rods with 8740 bolts.

Thanks Kent, looked through the catalog, PTS523AS seems to fit the bill.

Thanks Lance, I looked at the autotec and racetec stuff, but really couldn't find distributors. I read about them on yellowbullet and a lot of guys really like them. Quality part, just not really advertised a whole lot.
