Default Best Pushrods for AFR245 heads?

Hi Guys,

I've done a search and its conflicting, some say as long as you have hardened then thats fine, others are saying larger OD means more stability, I dont know what OD these AFR's will take, I will ask AFR to be sure.
Are all brands equal? I dont mind spending a little more if it yields results..

Cheers.

From AFR's Web Site:

"Pushrods - Different length pushrods might be required, always check pushrod length. Check pushrod clearance with heads placed on the block before final assembly.
Larger pushrods will not fit without clearancing and is not recommended since some areas are very thin. AFR recommends the use of .120" thick-wall pushrods
"

And i found this too!

245 LSX Mongoose Strip Cylinder Heads
Our Max Effort Cathedral Port Offering

A tremendous amount of time and energy was invested to bring you our 245cc LS Gen III head what represents the pinnacle in cathedral design bolt on performance. With over 355 CFM available it has intake flow numbers approaching GM's famed (and much larger) LS7 head with much stronger exhaust flow in comparison. This head is AFR's take no prisoners LS cathedral shaped offering and its focus is large displacement combinations (415 - 454 CID) with a minimum bore size of 4.00

The dual quench pad combustion chamber design requires a head gasket bore diameter of 4.200" or larger. These heads comes standard equipped with lightweight 2.160" intake and 1.600" exhaust valves. Another unique feature of this head is that it is “solid roller friendly” hn most applicaving been designed and machined to accept larger .375" diameter pushrods without additional clearancing (iations) and comes direct from the factory with 1.510" diameter spring pockets (Note: Under no condition can these pockets be machined deeper).

AFR have confirmed that the 245's will accept 3/8" pushrods, so thats a no brainer.
Is there a brand that might be considered better than another?

Cheers.

Most are similar.

Just stay away from the chinese ones.

Trend makes great pushrods. TSP, Tick use those. Manley also are good and Manton. You can get them direct.

Larger OD's increase strength and reduce deflection as do thicker wall tubing. We have 5/16" diameter, .080" wall and 3/8" diameter, .135" wall hardened chrome-moly pushrods of most any length in stock. We can also supply 3/8" .080" wall if you prefer. Even custom lengths can typically ship next day.

Just let us know what you need, we are eager to serve you!

Manton or Trend are excellent choices. I wasnt aware cam motion offered such a custom selection of pushrods. Looks awesome. I do love me some Cam Motion.

I usually buy the trend dual taper. They usually ship the next day even if they have to custom make them. I went with 7/16” on my latest build. Doubt those will fit your application tho lol.

My next engine I believe I'll be running Manton. Won a gift cert for them.

Going to be running 3/8" dia. Was going to call and get their feedback on straight, single, or double taper for my application.

ironically enough, I have spotted your thick wall 3/8” option, great value too, I’ll order next week when I have a correct length!
