Oil Pump Dilemma
The company I bought the pump from sent me a new pump and I used it with no problems. The ERL shortblock lasted 3700 miles before it was basically worn out but that’s another story. The new motor has about 400 miles on it and about 30 track passes. We decided to reuse the Schumann’s oil pump from the old motor because it had not given any problems. Friday night after my second 1/4 mile pass, oil pressure was 15 psi at idle. Normally it would have been 27-30. Above idle, oil pressure was normal. The car sat for almost an hour waiting for the second round and when I started the motor, oil pressure was 0. Pulled the front cover today and the damn bypass ball was stuck.
Has anyone else had this happen?
What pumps are others using in high rpm engines?
