Failing Lifter LQ4???
#24
Yea generally after so long it just Wipes out the lobe. That adds work and $. But luckily you caught it before the cam was bad. I've seen a few do this after miles and or prolonged driving and knowing they have a bad or stuck lifter. New cam now needed with lifters, pushrods etc.....

Just went through THE SAME THING on my 2008 Avalanche 5.3 with 180K on it.
I was chasing a #2 misfire code. It didn't make any noise for a month or so. Then after I ruled out everything else, and decided it has to be a lifter, it started chripping like a bird when I was pulling it into the driveway to tear it down. Go figure.
I changed out the AFM lifters and put a regular cam and LS7 lifters in it, had WCCH put guides and a valve job with new springs in the heads, timing chain, oil pump, valley cover, etc. Tuned out the AFM crap and it's like new again. Took me 3.5 days start to finish.
