Trickflow 228 230 for ly6
i came across this article and thought it looked like a really good setup. Any opinions for a better cam selection for this particular motor in a street daily driver classic car with an LS3 intake? Looking for something that makes good broad power but idles ok and has good street manners.

I just wrapped up a 6liter build with same heads/intake (ls3). I went with the ASA high lift cam from WS6Store, and it makes killer power mid to top. Not sure what we “gave up” down low, but compared to the built 5.3 we pulled out, it’s a winner across the board.
Now...what do you refer to as “ok idle”? Everyone perceives this differently.

True, everybody has a different idea of what is a lumpy idle etc. I don’t want it too choppy but I don’t think there is any way around it with a good cam.
So the 6.0’you did doesn’t feel doggy down low even with rec port heads and that cam? Thanks

A lot of the cams that just sound "uneasy" today would have been "choppy" two decades ago. They have come a long way with ramp rate design and lobe profiles. What is your horsepower target for the 6.0 you have in mind? Just know that the Track Max cam will still have a lumpy idle, but will still have great low end power.

I put together a 10:1 5.3liter, 243 heads, with a 228 Texas Speed camshaft for him (nephew) the first go around, and this engine is night and day stronger. While street tuning, it pulled out to over 7k rpm, and the tuner couldn’t believe it. It’s quick.

I can’t say I really have a major goal as far as power goes but it would be nice if it was around the 400whp mark. I always read these magazine articles and they always manage to hit astronomical numbers. My biggest concern is having a strong broad range of power and good street manners. I might also mill the heads .020”

400HP at the wheels ? OR flywheel? LS2 was 400 flywheel. A mild cam, good exhaust, and a good set of heads will do 400 at the wheels without any trouble.
The LY6 already has great heads (same as LS3), so all you really need is a good cam. And if you like a little lope and great response all the way up and down, use the High Lift Hot cam from WS6store. This cam in an LS3 puts out north of 500HP flywheel. A little less in a 6.0 LY6, so I think you can realize your goal in a very strong combo like this.

Through shorty-ish headers, mild ported heads and a 2 1/2" exhaust, I laid down 458hp/408tq at the wheels. Torque throughout the RPM curve is more than adequate in getting this 4400LB beast movin'!!
This is my daily driver and at 58yoa, I'm not gonna be dealing with a whole lot of 'craziness' with this car. Jus' sayin'.
