It shouldn't matter but its good practice to face them all the same direction.

Ok thank you. Got the lifters out and replaced.... 5 or 6 of the lifters I was able to push the plunger down with me thumb. With very little force. Was that the reason for the tap?

Not necessarily, lifters can bleed down from sitting and require little effort to push the plunger down. Bad lifters normally will be collapsed or the roller surface will be compromised.

You could have a pinched o ring around the oil pump pickup tube or a bad seal around the cam retainer plate. Both of those can cause noisy lifters at idle and low rpm.

I didn't mess with the oil pump so id imagine it's not the pickup tube. I hope it's just work lifters. I'll find out when I start her up this weekend. And let you know

also my oil pressure is good. Idles at 40-50 so all seals should be fine including cam retainer plate?

so I put the new lifters in. Put it all back together and it's making the same exact noise..... keep in mind I did not change the cam retainer plate or did anything with the oil pump (which was working just fine) I don't know what to do next..... pm me and I'll send you my number so I can send you a video..
