I would say your LY6 will need quite some work to get to 525RWHP

LS3 and LS7 will do it with ease

If the LS3 will do it with ease then why not the LY6 ?

The dynamic compression ratio of the stock LY6 because of the dished pistons will not be optimal with a cam profile required for 525RWHP

LY6 will require a significant bump in compression in order to make up for the cubes

Just ask the Pontiac G8 guys. A common combination they use is their stock bottom flat top 6.0 with a set of 821 heads from an LS3 milled down to 64cc and a custom grind cam by rick crawford and they still dont make 525rwhp. They average around 450rwhp

As you can see above he didn't ask about a stock LY6 he asked if he could get that power if he built it up and the answer is yes easily. To get to his numbers he only needs to up the compression ratio add decent cam and if that's not enough send the heads out for porting.

Edit: If he wanted to do a budget build he could machine it for LS3 pistons.

It's an iron version of the LS3 so if you can do it easily with an LS3 it can easily be done with the LY6. Same heads same stroke and can easily be bored to match the LS3 so why not? lol

I guess I don't see boring a block and new pistons being considered quite a bit of work, Pretty standard when rebuilding an engine.
My 408 was quite a bit of work, Bored/decked/Line Honed/new crank/rods/pistons/CNC porting of the AFR heads and so on.

A 400 plus cube motor will make things alot easier. Shoot for 600 horse at the flywheel to clear 500 horse at the tire.

Great info guys. I've decided to stick with the LY6 for now and just hit up Ed Curtis for his cam and spring kit. I can live with 400-425rwhp for the time being while I get some seat time once the suspension gets installed. Once the time comes, I'll swap the LY6 to the next project and start off with a lighter aluminum block for some weight savings up front.
