Default 6.2 (L99 LS3) cranks

I bought an LS3 converted L99 that had a boost spike dyno accident.
2 bent rods 2 busted pistons.

The car was an internet purchase, run hard for sure.

The crank rod and main journals are “ok”. A little groovy. It might not polish out. The center main is the worst.

Same casting as 5.3 and 5.7 cranks. But there is a difference. The L99 has gun drilled mains. Anyone notice that? I wonder what the reasoning is.

I’ve heard GM makes a forged crank. Reasonably priced. Anyone know anything about it?

This engine is destined for my C5. I’ll treat it as a big LS1. AFR 210 heads, small cam etc. I didn’t get the 823’s or the intake, so I’ll just reuse my LS1 stuff. Save some good $$$

LS7's got the forged crank, with a 4" stroke.

Now that you mention it, so did the LS9. Both blown engines got 'em!

There made here in america Unlike the ones from everyone else... If I recall there made in Moline Ohio. There still cheaper than the chinese ones from every aftermarket source out there.

The LS7 is a 4 inch stroke forged crankshaft.
The LSA and the LS9 are standard stroke 3.622 forged crankshaft.

HTH!

Thanks, that's the part number I found.
The engine doesn't need a forged crank, but if mine is out of spec, what the heck.
And I trust GM to get them right.

Thanks 1fastBrick

Don't forget the LSA/LS9 cranks have an 8-bolt flywheel pattern and 58x reluctor wheels.

And that would make putting it in an auto trans C5 rather difficult I’d think.
Oh well.
Thanks. I thought I remembered something about that.

It may not prevent you from installing it all together, just two more things to consider.

The reluctor ring can be changed without issue. The 8 bolt flexplate may interchange with the 6 bolt, just don't have experience with it to know for sure or not.

My local shop has the reluctor wheel tool. I’ve watched the process. Pretty cool, I mean hot. 😊

The C5 has a semi flexplate thing on the engine. With the trans in the rear, I’m not sure if it’s a std auto trans flexplate.

Keep in mind that the LS9 (9 bolt flywheel pattern) cranks have a long snout for dry sump. The LSA crank (8 bolt flywheel pattern) is a good option.

I have also heard that the new LT4 cranks (8 bolt pattern same as LSA) will work and are also forged. The LT4 comes in both a wet and dry sump version.
