Default vlom 08 5.3

i have seen on numerous sites that people replace the lifter without replacing the vlom. i have also read that when these"collapsed "lifters were tested they tested fine, so is it possible to replace the vlom only with out replacing the lifters?

VLOM= Valve Lifter Oil Manifold? Never seen it referred that way.
Anyway, which problem are you seeing on your engine? You don't say what's actually happening.

Two separate failure modes:

1) There is a failed lifter and you are replacing the lifter with the SAME style of lifter (AFM vs. non-AFM lifter), then you should replaced the VLOM as well. When debris is present in the oil system, the passages in the VLOM may become clogged.

2) There is no failed lifter (I believe there have been instances of ONLY the VLOM failing). In that case, replace only what's necessary.

Regardless, I'm not a fan of those lifters so if either issue arises, I'd take the "opportunity" to do an "AFM Delete" in which case ALL the lifters get replaced along with a non-AFM Valley Cover.

The OP hasn't even said he is having an issue, unless he's just being hypothetical. More like a couple of "what-ifs".

If you have lifter failure you MUST replace vlom or else you'll be replacing the lifters again 6k miles later.
