LS3 C1500 Build
Hey guys, I'm gathering parts to build a ls3 for me and my dad's 96 c1500 project. It will be a weekend warrior, decent daily driving, ful weight truck. Goals are to hang with some street cars and even some track times. The ls3 will for sure have either stock or GM performance ls3 heads. Nothing fancy, equipped with a ls3 intake and possibly rod-modded, 7k RPM-ish. My question, as many others have, is the cam choice. I'm not looking to set any records or any special so I think I'll be happy with a shelf grind. Looking at a few cams in the 22x/24x range. I know there are a few very knowledgeable cam guys in here so I'd figure I'd pick their brain on some feedback. Listed are 3 options I think would work well for me as a shelf grind. Transmission will be either a 4l60e or 4l80e built and aiming for a 3600+ stall and a 4.10+ gear on probably a 29" tire since it's lowered. Any feedback is appreciated!
CAM CHOICES:
- TSP 229/244 .629"/615" 112 LSA, 109 ICL
- Tick Polluter 233/248 .627”/.612” LSA113+5
- BTR 225/238 .612/.585" 113+3
If I missed any key points feel free to let me know. I'm looking at picking up the cam and timing cover set so when I drop off the motor at the engine shop it can be degreed and ready to go for top end

If you want to talk with the real cam guys, call TSP or Cam Motion. They will steer you to the cam you need. Just be straight up with your goals and your setup.

This is how it sits. Only paid $700 for it running and driving. We’ve replaced the bed so far and a few body panels as well as factory bucket seats for the interior. Just lowered it 4/6. Lots of progress still but paint will be the last thing on the list so it’s a true sleeper! Lol

me and pops drove about 3 hours for the bed. once picking it up it was a cool coincidence it was a “regency rst” bed which my 06 is a regency rst. pretty cool. have new fenders in the shop as well. it’s our daily/project. runs great for 200K miles! Lol I hope by the end of 2019 it’s damn near running if not running. i plan to take it to engine shop to have motor built by february. first build for me at 21 and one of several of builds for my dad. so it’s fun!

Caught the right deal at the right time! Guy needed the money! After speaking with Mike Lough Racing engines on a custom grind. It is a Howard's cam if I understood right. Specs are right around the numbers I was wanting and should make some awesome torque. Ordering it up soon then the short block will go to my engine builder to have freshened up and assembled
